Earthquakes, floods, cyclones, heatwaves, fires. The hazard is natural; most of the damage is decided by what people built and whether they were warned.
Preparation is what separates a hazard from a disaster. Cyclone warning systems and evacuation along India's east coast have cut deaths from storms dramatically over a few decades, even as the storms themselves have not become gentler. Earthquake deaths are overwhelmingly caused by buildings, so building codes and honest construction do more than any prediction could.
At the scale of a family: know where the gas and electricity shut-offs are, keep a torch, water and important documents together, agree where to meet if separated, and know which floor of your own building is safest for which hazard. In a flood, never walk or drive into moving water, and in a heatwave, water and shade in the afternoon are not a comfort but a medical necessity.
