A few habits that prevent most of what goes wrong: guard what you share, doubt what is urgent, and tell somebody when it goes bad.
Anything you post can be copied, so treat a photo or a message as permanent even where the app promises otherwise. Never share your address, your school's name, your phone number or your location with somebody you only know online, and be aware that people do not have to be who they say they are. A password that is long and unique matters more than one that is complicated, and the same password reused everywhere means one leak opens everything.
Nearly every scam works by creating urgency: an account about to close, a prize about to expire, a friend suddenly needing money. Urgency is the signal to slow down and check by another route. And if something frightening or shameful happens โ someone threatens you, or shares something of yours โ tell a trusted adult immediately. The people who do this rely on the victim being too embarrassed to speak, and speaking early is almost always what stops it.
