๐ฏ Why learn it
Tamil is one of the longest continuously used languages on earth and was the first Indian language given classical status by the Government of India. Its Sangam poetry is two thousand years old and still readable. It is also an official language in three countries, which no other Indian language can claim.
๐ฑ How this course teaches
A Hindi speaker cannot guess Tamil; the family is different and almost nothing transfers. That is honest and it is also freeing โ you start clean. This course teaches spoken Tamil, the kind actually used in Chennai, and notes where the written form differs, because Tamil has a real gap between the two.
๐ The sounds to get right first
| เฎดเฏ (เฎคเฎฎเฎฟเฎดเฏ) | zh โ a curled l-r | The tongue curls back without touching. It is the most famous sound in Tamil and the hardest; เฎคเฎฎเฎฟเฎดเฏ is roughly 'ta-MIZH'. Nobody gets it in a day. |

Tamil is not related to Sanskrit โ expect nothing to transfer, and enjoy the clean start. Add -เฎเฏเฎ to be polite, -เฎ to ask, and learn spoken forms for speaking and written forms for reading.
