- മനസ്സിലായില്ല — manassilaayilla 🔊 ma-nas-si-LAA-yil-la I did not understand. One long word: മനസ്സ് (mind) + ആയി (became) + ഇല്ല (not). This is how Malayalam builds.
Read every line aloud twice before moving on. The mouth learns a language, not the eye.
🔍 Long words are short sentences
Malayalam glues more than any of its sisters. A single word can carry the noun, its case, a verb and a negative. Learn to break them apart from the inside out and the language stops being intimidating.
- വീട് veedu = house
- വീട്ടിൽ veettil = in the house
- വീട്ടിലേക്ക് veettilekku = towards the house
- വീട്ടിൽനിന്ന് veettilninnu = from the house
- മനസ്സിലായില്ല = mind + became + not = 'it did not become clear to me'.
