📋 The pattern
- Physics 45 questions, Chemistry 45, Biology 90 (Botany 45 + Zoology 45)
- 180 questions, 720 marks, 3 hours 20 minutes
- Marking: +4 correct, −1 incorrect
- Pen and paper, OMR sheet — one of the last major Indian exams still offline
- Syllabus set by the NMC and closely tied to NCERT Classes 11 and 12
✅ Who can sit it
Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology and English, and a minimum aggregate that varies by category. There is no upper limit on the number of attempts.
💡 What candidates get wrong
- Biology is half the paper and is the section where ranks are actually decided, because the competition clusters at the top. Missing two Biology questions can cost thousands of ranks.
- NCERT Biology is not a reference for NEET; it is the syllabus. Line-by-line knowledge of those two books, including the diagrams, captions and the small-print boxes, is the single most reliable investment.
- Physics is the section most candidates lose marks in, and it is worth the same 180 marks as Botany. It is usually the cheapest place to gain rank.
- With one mark negative and a million and a half candidates, the difference between a good and an ordinary result is usually accuracy, not knowledge.
